Conjoined siblings, multiple-limbed characters, and an abundance of hair (its excess and abundance signaling the fantastical, while additionally functioning as a rope or anchor to the real) becomes imagery connected to an exploration of identity and celebrating a ‘self’ that Sadonie Smith and Julia Watson in their book INTERFACES: Women, Autobiography, Image, Performance “is neither unified nor stable – it is fragmented, provisional, multiple, in process.”
