As siblings, these large-scale drawings convey both stasis and movement through re-configured narratives of asuang and anito characters from Filipino folklore. dusk, ardor presents a narrative of multiple selves both supporting and betraying each other. A central fire on the belly of a three-headed fracturing mass causes disarray and exodus; figures remember and forget to save their other halves. forage brings forward imagery of the woven; anticipating solidarity, while at the same time threatening to unravel. Anitos (the ghost-like counterpart of an asuang) in their death is said to change form into a mountain, rock, or the phosphorescent glow of deadwood in mountain forest. Viewed under the aid of UV lighting, phosphorescent pigments and inks present on the drawn surfaces are activated, providing another dimension of experience and amplifying the notion of glow.
